|
Overview: The Samaritan Center is an interfaith program that feeds the homeless and needy men, women and children of Syracuse. Founded in 1981 as a bag lunch program provided by parishioners of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, it evolved into a hot meal program involving hundreds of community volunteers and a small professional staff. | |

What is involved? Four times a year Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church is responsible for the purchase, preparation, serving and clean-up of a meal at the Samaritan Center. A group of 4-6 women prepare the meal on a Saturday and the meal is transported to St. Paul’s the day of the serving. A coordinator is responsible for making sure there are 10-12 volunteers signed-up to serve the guests and clean-up. The coordinator contacts local grocery stores and bakeries for donation of bread. The congregation helps by baking cookies, cakes, pies and brownies to serve as desserts. History: The association of Pebble Hill and the Samaritan Center dates back to 1981 and is one of the longest running mission activities Pebble Hill is involved with. Other Information: Volunteering to help with a Samaritan Center serving is a wonderful mission activity for families to participate in together. Link to The Samaritan Center
