Worship Life at Pebble Hill

  Sunday Worship at 9:30 AM
  Special Services:

The Jazz Vespers Series at Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church began in 2002 as an outgrowth of a program at Pebble Hill in 2001 led by jazz pianist and Presbyterian minister, the Rev. Bill Carter, along with his Presbybop Quartet, entitled "Faith in a New Key."  Forming a creative partnership with the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation, we have offered jazz vespers services in the fall, and in conjunction with the Christian festivals of Epiphany (winter) and Pentecost (spring).  These special services are free and open to all.  We do receive a free will offering, and invite ongoing patronage in order to ensure the future of this unique offering that brings together this wonderful music with the worship of the church. Next Jazz Vespers at Pebble Hill - October 28, 2007.

Response to Pentecost Jazz Vespers

The Spirit of God was in that place, sweetly speaking through those instruments and musicians and moving among God's people! Talk about Pentecost! I am still bobbing my head, clapping my hands, shouting Hallelujah! and reeling from the presence of God in that place among God's people! What a mountaintop experience! I felt so moved, I could barely contain my composure. I just wanted to run down the aisle and back! The event gave me such a sense of what it will mean when the whole of God's church gathers to praise God in one voice, and comes around the banquet table the King has prepared for us in the new age to come! God is absolutely awsome!

We gather as God’s people each Sunday morning at 9:30 to sing praise to God, seek God’s forgiveness and grace, hear and respond to God’s word in scripture, lift our prayers for our world, for others and ourselves, and celebrate God’s love for us.  Worship is the central act of our life as the church.

We celebrate two sacraments in the Presbyterian Church, Baptism and the Lord's Supper, or communion. We baptize infants in our tradition, but baptism may also be received at any age when a person comes to a saving faith in Christ and desires to be part of a worshiping congregation. At Pebble Hill communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, and at other special times during the year

Children are welcome in our worship.  A “sermon with young Christians” takes place each Sunday by our Pastor, early in the service.  Children through grade 5 then leave the service for their time of Christian education.  Young people grades 6-10 form this year’s Confirmation class, which meets at the same time as adult education, 11:00-12:00 following our fellowship time after worship.

The last Sunday of each month is our “Gathering” Sunday.  Worship on those Sundays is in a somewhat different style than on other Sundays – less formal, with different kinds of music and a different way of sharing God’s word.  Children remain for the entire service on “Gathering” Sundays.
